Living in Ekkamai and Phrom Phong

The areas of Phrom Phong, Thong Lor, and Ekkamai can lay an overwhelming claim to being the chicest, most sophisticated, and culturally diverse areas in the city. From the glistening luxury high rise condominiums of Phrom Phong, through the culinary mecca of Thong Lor, and on to the pulsating nightclubs of Ekkamai, this region of Bangkok is without a shadow of the one of the most attractive for residents of the Thai capital. Unsurprisingly therefore, alighting at either one of these central BTS stations, pedestrians are confronted by probably the most cosmopolitan mixture of peoples in any part of the city.

Between Phrom Phong is certainly the part of the city where you will see the greatest concentration of Japanese and Korean ex-pats, and as a result, those with a love for those nations’ respective cuisines will be in awe of the incredible amount of eateries catering to their tastes, particularly off Sukhumvit 55/Thong Lor adjacent to Thong Lor BTS station. All three areas, however, cater to those looking for any conceivable dining experience from Tapas at 39 Café and Bistro Bar in Phrom Phong, excellent Indian food at Red Restaurant in Thong Lor, and hearty, rich American and Cajun Creole food at Bourbon Street Restaurant and Oyster Bar in Ekkamai. Add to that, of course, the wealth of excellent Thai restaurants to be found in these areas, and you truly have a gastronomic nirvana.

Bangkok is truly one of the world’s top destinations for those looking for great nightlife and Thais and foreigners alike flock to Thong Lor, Ekkamai, and Phrom Phong to enjoy the best bars and clubs the city has to offer. Thong Lor is host to an impossibly wide array of vibrant and popular bars in which to be seen, unwind, catch up, and listen to live music such as Fat Gut’z, Iron Fairies, and the Witch’s Tavern. Thong Lor and Ekkamai have been for a long time one of the premier nightclub areas of the Thai capital with clubbers partying seven nights a week until the early hours in clubs such as Nunglen, Escobar, Muse, and Funky Villa.

The Phrom Phong to Ekkamai area also offers residents and visitors alike a wealth of options for a spot of retail therapy. Phrom Phong alone boasts one of the city’s most prestigious luxury shopping malls in Emporium, the unique boutiques of the lifestyle mall K Village, as well as a whole host of one off shops selling everything from Japanese accessories to fine art. In Thong Lor, shoppers can wander around K Village’s western and Asian chain stores as well its funky stalls and boutiques or check out the multitude of interesting smaller shops that dot the sois in and around arguably Bangkok’s most fashionable area. Phrom Phong isn’t without its charms either, especially for western expats looking for the more sedate surroundings of a British style pub. The area can lay claim now to the nearest thing that Bangkok has to a Little England with the real estate near Phrom Phong BTS station being home to The Londoner Pub on the corner of Sukhumvit soi 33, and The Robin Hood, the new The Dubliner, and the Royal Oak all a short walk away on Sukhumvit soi 33/1.

Naturally in an area with so many foreign expats, there will be a need for international schools and hospitals. The Phrom Phong to Ekkamai area is in no short supply of both of these necessities. Parents can choose from schools for children of all ages such as Trinity International School, Bangkok International Preparatory Secondary School, and Wells International Kindergarten. International standard hospitals in the area include Sukhumvit Hospital, Prommit Hospital, and Samitivej Hospital.

We at Bangkok Property Services cannot recommend this area of Bangkok highly enough as an excellent place to live, work, and socialise, and therefore we continually strive to maintain a large database of properties in and around Phrom Phong, Thong Lor, and Ekkamai BTS stations to suit all manner of budgets and living requirements.
